Shurangama Sutra Session 9
1. When I was removing the wild plants curling up the fence today, suddenly I have a realization that attachment is just like the plant curling up the fence. It is so strong and in a way scary because it can be many layers of attachments one on top of another holding strongly and not wanted to let go. I have to cut at the key points in order to break section by section. The plant nature of holding on so hard and entangle to the fence is just like my 6 senses.
2. Now, I can start to be more aware of my consciousness and feelings to my surroundings at the point of contact. The challenge is to keep “Don’t Know Mind” and just reflect on what is happening and a clear “I” relationship of the moment in order to function correctly without being control by emotions of likes and dislikes.
3. After some further internal reflections and link my insights with Dependent Origination, it is clear that our 6 senses are the capabilities / potential. When the 6 senses contact with the external environment feelings are generated. The interpretation of the feelings usually directly link and influenced by our past experience of the similar events which we concluded (labelled) the experience as good or bad or neutral (neither good nor bad). This is our 8th and 7th consciousness playing the effects which then move us to the next stage of desire / love (like, dislike or neutral thought) in a split seconds which leads us to react /act to move forward / avoidance (moving away / do nothing (neutral feeling). Then our karma is created if the actions is fulfilled and the rebirth cycle continues. Everything can happens very fast and it is scary if I am not aware about it and my life will keep on repeating rebirth.
4. After the insights I have more self awareness and like seeing my own movie which I am the main character react to my environment. With the awareness I then can see the movie of others’ reactions in the lives and to my life. This allows me to act more positively.
5. Hence, to stop the dependent origination from continuation repeating in my life I have to be calm and peaceful at the contact points with the environment and just observe my feelings (movie) without judgement of good and bad. Being neutral allows me to be clear on the situations what is happening before I act and not react from my past labelling conclusions. This allows me to cut off my 7th consciousness more easily and less drama in life.
6. However, this needs more practices in my daily life with all my 6 senses when they contact with my environment
